I am Mark Noy, a Dutch artist that creates watercolor illustrations.

From a young age I have been fascinated by fairy tales. I’m very interested in how they blend fantastical elements with very real and grounded settings. My work is for a large part inspired by folklore, using ink and watercolor to bring fantastical scenes to life. I make great use of contrast, and I especially love using dark environments to create moody and atmospheric lighting.

I love to create worlds for people to explore. Worlds where there still is mystique and excitement. Another reason why I enjoy creating art is that it serves as a mirror, to see things in myself that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Creating art gives me great insight in how I interact with the world and how I should conduct myself. Creating art is akin to problem solving, and often times the same problems I find in art can be found in other parts of my life. With my work I try to bridge this gap between real life and the fantastical.
